High School Project-Based Learning Teacher (STEM) and Science Teacher
SALARY RANGE 54630 114862 annually based on degree and student contact hours JOB SUMMARY Mid Pacific seeks an experienced student centered and innovative teacher to lead learning in project based classrooms Mid Pacific celebrates and supports a diverse range of pedagogical approaches Facilitate learning in various project based settings fostering motivation and independence in learners while developing both content knowledge and soft skills necessary for success in education and life Specific teaching assignments will include teaching STEM courses and various high school science courses depending on experience eg biology chemistry etc In Mid Pacific Exploratory teachers are responsible for covering core concepts from traditional disciplines during one longer double scheduled period through a problemproject based learning approach ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following Teach competencies and skills with pedagogical practices that align with the mission and vision of the schoolPrepare curriculum and lesson plans following Next Generation Science Standards andor standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organization Incorporate differentiation and varied strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners Collaborate with other department members in developing and updating the STEM curriculum and assessment practicesPrepare and administer formative and summative assessments of students deeper learning according to the Mid Pacific Assessment GuidelinesRecord and post student grades electronically in a timely mannerMaintain effective classroom management liaising with deans and parents as necessaryParticipate in faculty and departmental meetings and attend professional development workshops and educational conferencesMaintain effective communication with parents and guardians as neededCarry out all homeroom advisory responsibilitiesDetermine budget needs and purchase equipment and materials for courses taughtOther duties may be assignedIn addition to content expertise in STEM the successful applicant will have experience with Designing authentic experiential and interdisciplinary experiences for students including project andor challenge based learning strategiesWorking with faculty partners to design authentic classroom lessons that make a break from traditional content based textbook learningSculpting questions that motivate students to learn independently and in groupsIncorporating educational technology into classroom activities that enable authentic skills and behaviorsDrawing interdisciplinary connections and marshalling resources that serve questions across disciplines Working with community organizations to leverage student learning and create real world applications and audiences for student workPlanning field trips that take student learning beyond the classroomPlanning and hosting presentations of learning to various audiences such as parents administration and outside communityDesigning and facilitating learning experiences in which students demonstrate understanding through the creation of authentic products projects performances or presentationsDeveloping curricular opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills by creating tangible artifacts that reflect their learning and thinkingThe teacher will also possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills team orientation and adaptive teaching and collaboration skills Participate in ongoing school wide efforts to grow teaching practicesRegular and predictable attendance at workAbility to manage a budget and work effectively with outside vendors or community partners is also highly valuedSCHOOL SAFETY Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplaceComply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others in adhering to safe work proceduresTake reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of othersReport any injury hazard or illness immediately to their Supervisor and Human ResourcesNot place others at risk by any act or omission not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipmentAct as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviorsIdentify assess if necessary and control hazards within the area of responsibilityEnsure that equipmentsupplies are properly maintainedMaintain relevant knowledge of safety lawsMandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services and Human Resources Sexual abuse includes child molestation any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor and serial sexual misconduct any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; arrange student desks furniture in classroom as needed; stand and sit throughout the day for instruction and supervision of students; walk class to chapel once a week walk around the classroom from classroom to copier room frequently library occasionally fields for fire drills occasionally to supervise students daily;
