Position Summary


The Intern/Co-op will be working directly with the STERIS Operating Room Integration Engineering Team. They will be supporting new product development or maintaining existing products under the guidance of STERIS Software, Hardware, Systems, Manufacturing, and/or Biomedical Engineers. The Intern/Co-op will work on surgical equipment and medical information system products. They will gain experience working within the regulated healthcare industry

Hours: 10:00am-3:00pm Monday-Friday (hybrid opportunity during the week)

Pay is $30-35/hour.

Duties


Design, implement, and debug software, hardware or systems designs according to corporate standards

• Program and debug servers and applications

• Perform software and system component verification, validation, and analysis

• Write and execute tests

• Write software, hardware, and systems documentation

• Research and evaluate new software and hardware technologies for potential integration into products

• Work as a collaborative team member in engineering projects

• Follows FDA regulations and compliance standards

Education


Minimum Educational Requirement: Successful completion of Sophomore level coursework or above, with a Major in one or more of the following: Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering field

Required Experience


  • Proficiency in mathematics (algebra and trigonometry minimum)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Linux system management (e.g. command-line, SSH, package updates)
  • Understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. control flow, inheritance, concurrency)
  • Proficiency in software/firmware programming/scripting
  • Completed medium/large-sized software/hardware/engineering projects
  • Local applicants that live in California

Preferred Experience


  • Proficiency in PC and electronics fundamentals (e.g. voltage/amps, RAM, CPU, PCI, USB, UPS)
  • Proficiency in networking fundamentals (e.g. IP-addressing, DNS, VPN)
  • Proficiency in relational databases (SQL)
  • Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and/or Product Development Lifecycle
  • Experience in web-development, REST, Ruby, Shell/Bash, JS, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience in hardware or PCBA design
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum
  • Familiarity with medical devices or the operating room environment
  • Rigorous pursuit of root-cause and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Eager to collaborate and learn from a professional engineering team.

Pay range for this opportunity is [[$30.00]] – [[$35.00]].

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than the range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.

Our Healthcare Customers are federally mandated (by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services or CMS) requiring vendors to have the COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption.
