Position Summary


At STERIS, the Production Manager leads a team of supervisors, material handlers and operators in the processing department. The Production Manager has budget responsibility for their respective departments of responsibility at our facility in Minneapolis, MN. in this position you will lead the implementation of corporate safety and health programs, drive a culture of continuous improvement, lead production staff and have routine contact with customers. This is day shift position with on-call responsibilities for a 24/7 operation.

Duties


Operational Excellence

  • Leads the implementation of corporate safety and health programs to establish and ensure a safe working environment, including establishing accountability systems that improve compliance and safety results.
  • Drives all continuous improvement processes at a shop-floor level, including lean operational culture, safety and safety improvement events, quality requirements. Fosters a culture that promotes continuous improvement of people and processes. Audits standard work, countermeasures.
  • Supports facility capacity management process through active participation with site management team.
  • Has budget responsibility for their respective departments of responsibility.

People Leadership

  • Leads production staff by creating a safe work environment, collaborates across job functions managing processing issues.
  • Compliance with FDA, OSHA, EPA regulations.
  • Audits adherence to standard work, revising as necessary.
  • Develops KPI for area of responsibility, provides coaching to direct reports to ensure understanding. Identifies development opportunities related to inefficiencies for succession preparation.

Customer Relationships

  • Routine Customer interaction related to processing of Customer products. including ensuring processing Special Instructions/Handling requirements are adhered to.
  • Interacts with Customers on issues that provide opportunity for system improvements, and where applicable, optimizes the planning and scheduling of irradiators/vessels/accelerators.
  • Provide support to Customer audits as needed. Support Quality investigations as needed.
  • Participation in Customer visits and Business Reviews
  • Delivering Results
  • Ensures performance across a range of activities and metrics within their area:
  • Ensure adherence to Safety and Quality requirements while handling Customer products, operating equipment and performing routine job functions.
  • Manage area expenses to ensure P&L targets are achieved.
  • Customer Service — maximize irradiator/vessel uptime to meet Customer volume and turn time requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy during product processing to eliminate Customer product damage and process nonconformances, investigating Quality issues as needed.
  • Engage workforce through use of Lean Principles to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Foster a culture that promotes continuous improvement of people and processes.

What You Need to be Successful


  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum eight (8) years’ experience management experience preferably in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industry. Will accept ten (10) years’ experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supervisors, planning, coordinating cross-shift/ department activities and adapting plans, resources to meet production requirements.
  • Experience with Lean culture and demonstrated experience leading lean events and activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, data analysis and data driven problem solving, ability to delegate and adapt to changing priorities required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
