The Role


The Tooling Manager in our Endoscopy business in Conroe, Texas is a hands-on (shop floor) manager role, responsible for all aspects of in-house tool manufacturing, Preventive Maintenance, development, and testing activities to ensure the business objectives are met to maximize productivity. In this role the Tooling Manager will maintain the highest levels of workmanship for all tooling activities and hold the team to the same level. You will lead and coordinate resources within the Tool room to ensure all tooling are produced efficiently, on time and in line with quality standards. Work with the Tooling team in supporting the development and application of specific training programs for trainee development around PM, EDM, Grinding, and Milling. The Tooling Manager will ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Implement and maintain a production planning system in coordination with molding. Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the team. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

What You Will Do


  • Develop and adapt tooling procedures, forms, protocols, and documentation to ensure that regulatory requirements and ease of use are maintained.
  • Assess and delegate daily priorities to the Tooling Team based on need.
  • Examine and assess mold production performance and fix as required.
  • Prioritize and make work assignments.
  • Work directly with Molding Department to ensure repair priorities are in alignment, schedule PMs and avoid scheduling/production conflicts.
  • Troubleshoot problems for employees on both 1st and 2nd shifts, as needed.
  • Support Molding during FAI, and trials.

What You Will Also Do


  • Maintain highest quality of molds and maintain tooling equipment; maintain inventory on molds, equipment, parts, and supplies. Retrieve molds from storage and prepare for molding per the molding schedule.
  • Perform mold PM based on priority; prepare molds for storage and place in storage.
  • Participate along with the team in CI events (7 step, Kaizen, Tiger Team).
  • Schedule team member’s hours and priorities for any OT that may be required.
  • Make work safety the number one priority and lead by example. Correct unsafe acts and adhere to/support all safety policies.

Support the application and development of internal Tooling training programs:

  • Preventive Maintenance training, EDM training, High speed and manual milling and grinding training.
  • Set goals, coach and mentor team; conduct performance reviews and initiate disciplinary action as needed.

What You Will Need to Succeed


  • High School Diploma or GED 5 years’ experience in a Manufacturing Environment.
  • Vocational / Technical training and 5 years’ experience.
  • 1 year of Journeyman Toolmaker or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Experience with Injection molds, hot runner systems, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ leadership/management experience.
  • Experience maintaining injection molds, hot runner systems, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Safety focused.
