Technical Specialist I – Keller,TX
Responsible for the Technical Capabilities (Product, People, Process, Parts) of a product category and ensuring standardization of the product category across all labs:
• Product — Collaborates in the determination of the Repair Capabilities and Progression of Repair Levels for each product category. Works collaboratively with Engineering and Sales/Marketing on identifying new projects, establishing the strategic approach and critical functional requirements to the capability development effort, and validation of the resulting engineering designs.
• People — Participates in an overall skills assessment of technical capabilities (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats). Contributes to the development and maintenance of the Department’s Skills Matrix: Required Tasks, Productivity and Quality Standards for each task, and the Technician’s Evaluations against the Skills Matrix. Guides Master Technicians and Team Leaders for the personnel development of all technicians in the department, including the Master Technicians and Team Leaders. Serves as backup in the absence of Department Supervisor.
• Process — Establishes the process steps of product flow through the department and works collaboratively with Engineering and QC Manager to establish the acceptance standard for all repairs and evaluation criteria for warranties.
• Parts — Responsible for identifying part and material failures / resolution, initiating cost savings measures, and supporting inventory decisions.
Duties
Here is what to expect as a day-to-day routine as a Technical specialist:

In a collaborative role, uses and maintains a skilled level of product knowledge and repair techniques to help department manager and technician work group.

Communicates with sales and customers to resolve technical issues, and promote product education.

Responsible for evaluating the repair capabilities and quality of outside vendors.

Provides support to repair exchange, loaner, and CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) sales programs.

Provides technical support to vendors (both outside repair vendors and part vendors).

Provides technical support to Ops Support Engineering for work instructions, device standards, BOM’s (Bill of Materials), and tooling to support production processes.

Initiates ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders) for addressing technical issues, new product development capability, tooling, processes, and parts changes in the department.

Conducts incoming triage and performs initial observation of product. Assesses trends, estimates warranties, and determines “No Repair”, observes new models of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

Contributes to decision making on outsourcing decisions.

Works closely with and provides support to department manager for meeting department goals. (SQDCE).

Initiates and addresses NCR’s (non-conforming reports).
Education Degree
- High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ experience in surgical repairs or related field OR 8 years’ experience in surgical repairs or related field without a bachelor’s degree.)
