Position Summary


The Advanced Mechanical Engineer position will be a part of the Infection Prevention Technology (IPT) Department. The nature of the position will be a part of the new product development of steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, and liquid chemical sterilizer technologies. The product development process is carried out as a part of a cross-functional team per outlined project charter and product requirements, under the guidance of a Program Manager.

Duties


• Designs, develops, documents and executes mechanical and/or electromechanical solutions for sub- systems and components to meet project goals.

• Hands on prototyping and idea evaluation of fluid systems.

• Performs analyses and resolve issues using problem solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions in the sterilization industry.

• Applies mechanical engineering principles of statics, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, material selection and fabrication to develop design solutions for medical equipment.

• Manages time and budget sensitive sub-system projects, which are a part of a larger product development initiative.

• Uses 2D and 3D cad software to model concepts and designs throughout the development process.

• Applies Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS) and other engineering analysis software to aid in design development and validation.

• Performs routine engineering investigations involving calculations and/or tests in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies.

• Prepares design sketches and assists with developing design layouts and drawings for a variety of components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects.

• Defines subsystem design requirements and develops documentation in accordance to STERIS processes and procedures.

• Interacts with vendors, suppliers, and consultant to assure compliance with requirements and specifications.

• Works as a collaborative team member in engineering projects.

Required Education & Experience:


• BS in Mechanical Engineering required. MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred

• 9+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience.

• Minimum of 7 years of Experience in product development or consulting

• ANSYS FEA structural experience preferred

• ANSYS Fluent CFD experience preferred

• Understands manufacturing fabrication processes

• Worked with vendors and suppliers, and understands the sourcing process

• Experience in 3D CAD Modeling, Creo preferred

• ASME Pressure vessel design experience preferred

• Effective verbal and written communication is required to facilitate collaboration and create documentation.

• Travel up to 10% including internationally.

• Must have the ability to work in a lab environment & the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
