Position Summary
Senior Scientist is responsible and accountable for the management of dosimetry systems across all STERIS Services Radiation operating facilities and related activities. This is accomplished through the development and implementation of Dosimetry systems including calibration, traceability, capability of calibration, and designating and acquiring appropriate analytical equipment.
Duties
- Supervises the Scientist I, Scientist II and Scientist III and provides necessary training and leadership for the Scientist I and Scientist II positions.
- Works in conjuction with Prinicipal Scientist to provide recommendations on dosimetry systems and radiation processing to the Radiation Technology Manager.
- Manages projects related to radiation processing, such as, but not limited to; dosimetry systems and equipment installation and troubleshooting, efficiency gains, process improvement.
- Along with Principal Scientist, responsible for the overall dosimeter process, including policies and procedures regarding routine measurement of dosimeters, calibration of dosimeters, and training of dosimeter readers.
- In conjunction with Scientist team, makes final decisions and approvals regarding overall dosimeter system uncertainty based upon successful execution of experiments per industry and American Society of Testing Methods (ASTM) standards and regulations.

- Reviews and approves installation, operational, and performance qualification reports.
- Performs dose estimates and aids in investigation assessments for routine runs resulting from deviations in routine processing.
- Designs studies that: provide justification for procedural requirements, assist in process efficiency, and are value-added to processing facilities.
- Leads facilities in support of efficient radiation processing for Customers by developing and reviewing radiation validation and qualification protocols.
- Maintains radiation processes in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry that complies to FDA regulations, ISO 9000, AAMI and ASTM.

Required Experience
- A minimum of eight (8) years of general or operational management experience in sterilization operations with ISO and/or GMP exposure and Customer service focus.
- Ability to problem solve both individually and on teams.
- Ability to demonstrate mastery in mathematical and technical problem solving.
- Proficient in use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
- Able to complete complex statistical and data analysis using advanced statistical tools.
- Thorough knowledge of Quality Systems and working in a regulated environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Ability to lead projects.
