They are driving the industry forward through the use of modern technology … including a lot of ML/AI … but with a lot more than that too including a foundation of innovative and automated processes, and of course, a rock-star team. This company has set out to build a ++Billion Dollar Top line business with less than 50 people,++ “disrupting” an industry that is clouded in outdated and manual processes systems: They are well on their way …

++A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU++:

My client is hiring a ++Principal Data Scientist++to act as a core building block for the entire future of the Data team, and the rest of company as well. The manager has described his Principal hires as his “lieutenants” meaning that if hired, you will have a strong voice in all of the company’s and the products technical decision making. You will have inherent trust and autonomy from him to “get the job done”. You will not be micromanaged, but instead you will be responsible for driving the product forward.

More specifically, in this role as a ++Principal Principal Data Scientist++ you will be focused essentially on synthesizing data from a MEGA size data pool (they have ~3000 data points on every customer through a recent acquisition and a deep ~20 years history). If hired you will OWN the build out of a better, more predictive model, i.e. correlations and causation … and ultimately you will lead the charge in creating a bleeding edge, market forward pricing output. In more simple terms, you will help them better assess insurance risk, and the correlated pricing model, without having to ask 1 customer at a time. This will be revolutionary for the company and it is VERY rare in the industry. The data is there, the model is not … so you will have strong ownership of an monumental process for the team and the company

++REQUIREMENTS++:

My client is looking for the following:

  • 7-10+ years of ++Data Science++experience
  • Energy and passion of a principal “founding” data scientist: We are looking for someone who wants to lay the foundation, touch every piece of data …and also be able to delegate as they rapidly add scope.
  • Someone who thrives in the weeds and in tackling tough data problems with a strong focus and preference for working as an IC (**this role is NOT for a Manager or aspiring Manager)
  • Proven experience and interest in owning the future of the data platform

++NICE TO HAVE++:

  • Previous experience / interest in working in the Insurance Industry AND/OR in the Sports Betting industry

++LOCATION++

This company is building an HQ in the Denver area. These positions are Hybrid with a expectations that you are in office 2-3 days a week. As they build the team, they are still getting a feel for the market here in Denver and as such, they may be open to folks who are able to drive to their HQ 1 day a week.

++SALARY / BENEFITS++

The budgeted salary range is 180K — 200K + 10% Bonus and strong equity. Their benefits are “typical” for companies of their size, offering Health, Dental, Vision, and 401K but no match. They have an open “take what you need” PTO policy. Again, they are still getting a feel for the market here in Denver and as such, they may be open to folks who command a slightly higher salary (up to 220K), if they ultimately feel it is needed for the local market demands.
