Brentwood School inspires every student to Think critically and creatively Act ethically Shape a future with meaning BRENTWOOD SCHOOL Long Term Substitute Upper School Computer Science Teacher Brentwood School a vibrant and diverse K 12 independent school is seeking a long term substitute Upper School Computer Science Teacher to begin immediately We are seeking an individual from an independent public private or charter school with multiple years of experience teaching APCS A and APCS Principles to high school students grades 9 12 and holding one or more degrees in Computer Science or a related discipline It is expected that a successful candidate would Teach two or three classes per semester Fall and SpringDemonstrate classroom experience and knowledge teaching AP Computer Science courses APCS Principles and APCS A with an emphasis on experience teaching APCS Principles using the UTeachCS curriculumDemonstrate classroom experience and knowledge teaching introductory computer science courses eg Introduction to Programming Exploring Computer ScienceDemonstrate experience and knowledge teaching in a classroom setting synchronously not asynchronously or onlineShow proficiency and fluency in one or more text based programming languages eg Java python C with a strong emphasis on Java and pythonShow proficiency and fluency in one or more block based programming languages eg Scratch AppInventor Snap MakeCode with a strong emphasis on ScratchBe proficient in HTML CSS JavaScript and web designMeet frequently and coordinate with the Dept Chair to plan implement and reflect on existing and new curriculum and courseworkUtilize educational technology throughout all instruction and courseworkEngage and support students of varied identities lifestyles learning styles and beliefs Create an environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of viewBe accessible to and communicate with students and parents including at the end of quarter and semester grading periodsPerform additional duties and participate actively in the life of the school including advising a student activity chaperoning events and attending student events In addition a candidate should possess the following qualities and attributes Strong collaboration skills and cross cultural competencyAn interest in and openness to professional developmentCommitment to fairness and fostering communityExcellent interpersonal management and leadership skillsA sense of humor warmth of personality and energyFlexibility While being vaccinated for COVID 19 is not required it is strongly recommended COMPENSATION Brentwood Schools diverse and talented faculty ranges widely in experience level from those new to teaching to veterans who are experts in their respective disciplines with 30 years of experience Our salary range of 72000 120000 includes all levels of experience Salaries are determined based on years of experience education full or part time status and number of months worked per school year Salary ranges do not include benefits ie 403b retirement paid lunch time free breakfast and lunch and free parking The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed If hired your actual base salary will be determined by your education experience and schedule Brentwood School is dedicated to the creation of a diverse faculty and staff that best represents our student body and the city of Los Angeles Information about our school can be found at httpwwwbwscampuscom Apply online
