As a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer you will design, develop, test and document circuits for embedded, real-time microprocessor-based instruments in conjunction with firmware and mechanical product development. You will be a key team member on our engineering team, furthering our commitment to continuous improvement and new product development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and implements electronics as it applies to embedded, real-time microprocessor-based instruments per product requirements. This includes both the development of new products as well as enhancements/fixes for existing products
  • Analyzes product requirements, researches current technologies, and collaborates with other firmware/electrical/mechanical engineers to assess feasibility and develop solutions which optimize performance and cost
  • Documents schematic and layout designs per established procedures/standards and provides additional documentation, including test plans, and working with Test Engineering to improve auto test, as required
  • Contributes to project planning, including estimating effort and cost, prioritizing/ordering tasks, and negotiating responsibilities
  • Provides support for other associates and/or customers including mentoring less experienced engineers, assisting with the creation of product manuals and other sales literature, trouble-shooting customer issues and answering sales questions
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for improvement, both for products and processes
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from 4-year college or university
  • 7/10 years of experience in an electronic circuit design/new product development environment, with specific experience in the following areas/disciplines:
  • Analog circuit design (DC-1Ghz)
  • Digital circuit design
  • Embedded controller hardware design
  • Skilled in the use of Altium schematic capture, circuit simulation, and pcb layout applications.
  • circuit analysis software (such as PSpice)
  • Knowledge of EMC requirements, including design and layout techniques to assure EMC performance of PCB’s and products
  • Generate new and update existing design schematics, BOMs, and release documentation
  • Hands on experience troubleshooting complex electronic circuit designs including the use of oscilloscopes, DMM/DVMs, spectrum and network analyzers and LCR meters
  • Knowledge of embedded firmware including C
  • Self-motivated, able to work under little supervision, able to adapt to changing design requirements and easily transition between projects to meet priorities
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with design techniques for hazardous area approvals such as Intrinsic Safety (IS) and Explosion proof (XP) protection methods, preferred (FM, ATEX, and IECEx)

  • Experience with industrial instrumentation such as level/pressure/flow/temperature measurement, preferred

  • Familiarity with industrial digital communication protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus, etc., preferred

  • Capable of evaluating systems comprised of electronic circuits, complex embedded firmware, and mechanical components

  • Understands calibration of instruments and methods to compensate for temperature or other parameters

  • Performs design verification and validation testing to ensure design meets product specifications.

  • Reviews product designs to optimize component and manufacturing costs (DFMEA) to support manufacturing and cost reduction (VAVE) programs
