Job Description


Role Summary

In support of a lean culture, the EH&S Intern’s responsibilities consist of providing resource support for the environmental, safety, and health requirements of the site, performing day-to-day safety and health responsibilities to comply with those regulatory requirements, as well as providing direction for company directed Safety & Health initiatives using lean tools and principles.

This internship will be hosted for the Summer 2024 semester.

Description of Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the Environmental Health & Safety programs and lean culture. Support EHS management strategies, provide recommendations and technical expertise on regulatory compliance.
  • Provide input and support to achieve zero recordable incidents through behavioral based safety, injury free events (IFEs), safety interactions, human performance principles, hazard identification/elimination, work practice controls, employee engagement, and other company directive preventive safety initiatives.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate EHS inspections and assessments to assure compliance with regulatory requirements, Key Performance Measures (KPIs) expectations, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Procure and maintain records, data, or information necessary to prepare internally or externally required reports or responses to agency requests. Prepare and/or submit timely reports and responses to informational requests.
  • Support incident investigations including root cause analysis for corrective action. Train management personnel on incident investigations and proper documentation. Track plant performance, benchmarking against best-in-class manufacturing.
  • Provide industrial hygiene support as needed to evaluate employee noise and other health exposures.
  • Responsible for initiating, formalizing, and providing various EHS training programs for plant personnel.
  • Sustain a systemized environmental, safety & health program that ensures the location meets Corporate Safety standards and initiatives.
  • Support the location in the development and maintenance of Corporate Safety EHS systems, OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), ISO, and similar.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in an EHS discipline or other scientific program applicable to the safety field is required.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
  • Requires basic knowledge of General Industry standards, to include ergonomics, machine guarding, electrical hazards, LOTO, etc.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written skills, and interpersonal skills along with ability to make presentations comfortably and professionally to large groups.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Adept at resolving complex problems encountered in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects at once and providing feedback to managers
