Position: GIS Research Analyst

Type: Hourly contract

Compensation: $50–$60/hour

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Design high-quality, real-world geospatial analysis problems to support training and evaluation of frontier AI systems.
  • Develop multi-step GIS workflows involving zoning research, parcel data extraction, and spatial data analysis.
  • Craft tasks requiring navigation of government GIS portals and spatial databases.
  • Create detailed evaluation rubrics to assess AI reasoning and geospatial analysis performance.
  • Apply GIS and spatial analysis expertise to ensure technical accuracy and real-world relevance.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a distributed team of research and domain experts.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field from a top institution.
  • Professional experience in spatial analysis, urban planning, or geospatial data science.
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms and government spatial databases such as ArcGIS, QGIS, USGS, or Census Bureau data.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical reasoning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with high English proficie.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, project-based environment.
