Sr. Quality Assurance Manager
About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a market-leading healthcare technology platform that powers mission-critical infrastructure for tens of thousands of providers, payers, and partners across North America. Their platform sits at the intersection of healthcare, fintech, and large-scale data exchange—processing massive transaction volumes with real-world financial and patient impact.
They’re investing heavily in modernizing their engineering platform—and quality engineering is at the center of that transformation.
This is a rare opportunity to define QA strategy at scale, modernize automation across legacy and modern systems, and lead a team through a major platform evolution.
The Role: Senior Quality Assurance Manager
As the Senior QA Manager, you’ll be both a technical leader and a hands-on quality engineer, responsible for shaping testing strategy across legacy Java systems and modern Angular-based platforms. You’ll lead a small QA team, expand automation coverage, embed quality into CI/CD pipelines, and partner deeply with engineering and product leadership.
This role is ideal for someone who wants ownership, influence, and technical depth—not just process management.
What You’ll Do
Quality Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the QA strategy across legacy and modern applications with a strong automation-first mindset.
- Lead and mentor QA engineers, setting clear goals, coaching development, and building a high-performing quality culture.
- Establish testing standards, frameworks, and best practices across engineering teams.
- Embed quality into the SDLC in partnership with Engineering and Product leaders.
Automation & Tooling
- Drive automation across Java backend and Angular front-end systems.
- Evaluate and scale modern automation tools (Cypress, Playwright, Newman, etc.).
- Build automated regression, integration, and end-to-end pipelines.
- Integrate testing deeply into CI/CD to improve release confidence and velocity.
Quality Engineering & Process Improvement
- Create test strategies, plans, and quality metrics across multiple products.
- Identify quality risks early and proactively mitigate defects before production.
- Own defect management workflows and reporting.
- Continuously improve QA processes, tooling, and team capabilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and DevOps to align quality practices with delivery workflows.
- Collaborate with offshore engineering teams to maintain consistent global quality standards.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews to ensure testability and reliability.
Modernization & Scale
- Lead QA modernization initiatives—framework upgrades, tooling improvements, and process redesign.
- Improve engineering velocity through smarter automation and testing strategies.
- Champion a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
What Success Looks Like
- Automation coverage increases significantly across legacy and modern systems.
- Engineering teams ship faster with fewer production defects.
- QA becomes a strategic engineering partner, not a downstream gatekeeper.
- The QA team grows into a modern quality engineering function.
- Leadership trusts releases with high confidence and predictable outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have
- 8 years in QA, test automation, or quality engineering
- 3 years leading QA teams or senior technical contributors
- Strong experience with Java applications and modern front-end frameworks (Angular or similar)
- Hands-on automation experience with Cypress, Playwright, Newman, or comparable tools
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with distributed or offshore engineering teams
- Background in healthcare, fintech, SaaS, or regulated environments
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience modernizing legacy QA frameworks
- Familiarity with performance, security, or reliability engineering
Why This Role Is Compelling
- Strategic mandate: This is a modernization role with real influence, not maintenance.
- Scale: You’ll work on systems with real financial and clinical impact.
- Leadership: You’ll shape QA strategy and build a modern quality engineering culture.
- Technical depth: Hands-on automation, CI/CD integration, and architecture collaboration.
- Career trajectory: Clear path toward Director/VP-level quality or platform leadership.
