Job Title: Commodity Manager — Mechanical

Reports To: Director, Sourcing

Location: Lowell, MA (Onsite)

Travel Requirement: ~20%

Job Purpose

The Commodity Manager leads the development and execution of MACOM’s sourcing strategies for machining, mechanical, and related spend categories. This role drives supplier performance, supports sourcing decisions, and ensures continuity of supply, optimal total acquisition cost, lead time management, on-time delivery, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies and lead teams to meet project timelines, cost targets, and supplier performance objectives.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and identify new technologies and industry best practices
  • Lead annual cost‑savings initiatives that support organizational financial and growth objectives.
  • Develop commodity business plans aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Drive early supplier engagement within the product development cycle.
  • Implement metrics, tools, and processes that improve sourcing efficiency and supplier performance.

Core Competencies

Mechanical & Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of machining, CNC, sheet metal, injection molding, castings, tooling, materials, and GD&T.
  • Ability to interpret and challenge complex mechanical drawings and specifications.

Negotiation & Supplier Management

  • Advanced negotiation skills across contracts, supplier agreements, and conflict resolution.
  • Proven success in delivering cost savings and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Analytical & Systems Skills

  • Strong analytical capability in market trends, risk assessment, and cost modeling.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Power BI.

Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and leading multi‑site projects.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Decisiveness and urgency in achieving results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of experience in sourcing and managing complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Preferred experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry
