Description : Summary — The Medical Laboratory Technician, ASCP performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position performs functional duties in the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases in the Laboratory Path of Work flow. May be required to share responsibility to delegate work assignments for self and coworkers in the absence of a supervisor or lead. Must comply with the CLIA standards, listed as responsibilities under 42CFR493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel.Education — Associate’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program which is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or Associate’s degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry and equivalent training, education, and experience (such as military training).Experience — Six months full time clinical laboratory experience required. The clinical laboratory experience gained during the accrediated Medical Technology program will satisfy the experience requirement.Licensure/Certification — ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MLT certification or equivalent categorical certification required.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Working knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers.
