Project Title: High-Throughput Monitoring of Phytoplankton Community Dynamics and Harmful Algal Species in Coastal Waters
[Appointment Period: 5 months]
The appointee will participate in research projects related to the topics of (1) Phytoplankton Community and (2) Harmful Algal Species in coastal waters. The major duties include conducting a literature review, collecting samples from coastal waters, processing samples, extracting DNA/RNA, performing PCR analysis and sequencing, and analyzing bioinformatics data. They will also be responsible for drafting reports, papers, and proposals for submission, carrying out general administrative duties, and performing any other duties as assigned. The appointment will be for a period of around 5 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement.
Applicants should have at least Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in HKDSE; or Grade E (Level 2) or above in five subjects, including Chinese, English (Syllabus B) and Mathematics in HKCEE or equivalent, preferably with a Bachelor’s degree or above. Relevant research experience in (1) bioinformatics and (2) molecular biology is preferred. Preference will also be given to applicants with good knowledge of environmental DNA-related bioinformatics research, experience in field work, and the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. They should also be a good team player, attentive to details, highly self-motivated, and able to work under pressure. Immediate availability is preferred.
