About The Role
The Galaxy Automation Initiative within the Information Technology and Digital Enablement organization is seeking experienced automation developers specialized in Ansible and OpenShift to support deployment automation and testbed platform management. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing automation scripts, managing container orchestration platforms, and ensuring the stability and security of the Galaxy deployment environment. This position involves collaborating with internal technical teams and external support providers to enhance system efficiency, maintain system health, and implement security protocols. The role offers a unique opportunity to work remotely full-time, contributing to high-impact projects in a dynamic and innovative environment. The ideal candidate will possess a broad understanding of the software development tech stack, with a focus on automation, container management, and cloud technologies.
Qualifications
- Experience with Ansible automation tools
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and container management systems
- Knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift platform
- Experience with system upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Understanding of security principles and compliance requirements
- Ability to develop and maintain system documentation using GitLab, Markdown, and Confluence
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance
- Basic scripting skills, preferably in Python or similar languages
- Experience with DevOps tools such as Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of cloud environments like AWS or Azure (desired)
- Experience with SQL databases (desired)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Ansible collections, roles, playbooks, and automation scripts within a shared codebase
- Manage and optimize Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift environments
- Perform system-wide upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities
- Assist in onboarding applications into the Galaxy testbed platform
- Monitor system dashboards, logs, and audits to ensure operational health
- Maintain comprehensive system documentation, onboarding guides, and procedures
- Implement and ensure compliance with security standards and deployment requirements
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Support continuous integration and deployment processes to streamline automation workflows
