Position Summary
This position reports to the DVP Procurement and is responsible for managing all aspects of Sigma US Meat Procurement activities. Responsibilities include sourcing all global meat proteins, maintaining the Value Managed Relationship (VMR) Program with key suppliers, monitoring protein markets/industry, and reporting significant trends and events to the senior management team.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage the entire global meat protein spend for Sigma (approx. $300 million).
- Partner with Mexico’s meat procurement group to coordinate North American meat procurement strategy and communicate real‑time U.S. market conditions.
- Manage all negotiated agreements and pricing with meat vendors; act as lead decision‑maker for pricing, vendor selection, and vendor management.
- Create and manage the annual and long‑term protein sourcing plan aligned to business growth strategy, including forecasts, annual pricing plan, and profitability planning.
- Oversee Raw Material reporting and supplier scorecards; recommend improvements and negotiate with new vendors when necessary.
- Evaluate, advise on enhancements, and manage the Value Managed Relationships (VMR) program, including top‑to‑top business reviews and internal cross‑functional team coordination.
- Prepare reports and analyses for recommendations to the Executive Committee regarding annual budget, market forecasts, pricing, and profitability.
- Develop and manage the Risk Management program to forecast market pricing trends and determine hedging actions (e.g., Forward Pricing or Freezer positions).
- Manage supplier claims involving rejected, damaged, contaminated, or non‑compliant product.
- Develop and manage the new meat procurement team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business, or related field
- 5 years’ experience in procurement
- 2 years’ experience in a procurement leadership role managing staff, budgets, and negotiating agreements
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or related degree
- 8 years of experience in the meat/food industry
- Active industry‑related certification

- Procurement, scheduling, and negotiation skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including advanced Excel skills
- Ability to use forecasting and data analysis for business planning
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and sound decision‑making
- Ability to communicate across functions and business units at multiple management levels
- Ability to exercise strong business judgment and influence with credibility
