About this Job This is a part-time position located at the State Museum in New Orleans, LA.This position will serve on a custodial crew performing routine manual tasks to maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of the Louisiana State Museum buildings and complexes.The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture.Minimum Qualifications Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found .Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Works with a group of custodian or other employees to perform custodial-related duties to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of all the museum buildings and complexes.
- Performs tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, cleaning glass-pane windows, and using the proper cleaners and cleaning tools designed for each specific purpose.
- Empties trash cans and disinfects trash containers.
- Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.
- Keeps outdoor entryways and sidewalks clean by sweeping, hosing, and pressure washing as necessary.
- Cleans and waxes floors using industrial mops for cleaning and applying waxes, and using specialized industrial equipment such as strippers, buffing, and polishing machines.
- Is able to read event and function forms and aid with the setting up and breaking down of tables, chairs, furniture, and audio-visual equipment required for special events, banquets, and meetings.
- Aids with the cleaning prior to, during, and after all special events, banquets, and meetings.
- Assists with the cutting of grass, trims shrubs, waters plants, and performs other related duties on the grounds when assigned.
- Has knowledge of how to operate lawn equipment such as riding lawn mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, and blowers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12-month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**
Work Schedule: This position will report to work in-office.
