Senior BI Engineer
DPP is seeking a Senior BI Engineer for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.
Work arrangement:
- Hybrid: 3 days/week onsite in Columbia, SC
- W2 position; 12 months, with possibility of extension
- Candidates must reside in South Carolina, or be willing to relocate
Position summary:
- The Senior BI Engineer will serve as a key member of the agency s Data Visualization Systems Team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining advanced business intelligence solutions.
- This role focuses on Power BI development, data modeling, and mentoring junior developers, supporting agency-wide initiatives to enhance public health infrastructure through actionable insights and dynamic dashboards.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze, design, code, test, document, implement, and maintain agency computer systems supporting health services.
- Develop and oversee advanced Power BI dashboards, KPIs, and data models to improve fiscal-year calculations, expenditure rollups, and executive decision-making.
- Mentor junior developers in BI best practices and visualization techniques.
- Create monthly architecture snapshots, workflow diagrams, backend schemas, and operational documentation.
- Ensure seamless integration with agency systems, including EDM and GIS platforms.
- Collaborate with data analysts, integration teams, and program areas to ensure accurate and meaningful data visualization.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, definitions, and data dictionaries.
- Provide technical support for BI tools and other assigned applications.
- Adhere to agency IT development standards and security protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- 3+ years of experience with Power BI development and dashboard design.
- 3+ years of experience with technical documentation.
- 1+ year of experience with project management.
- 1+ year of experience with data modeling.
- Bachelor s degree in a relevant field of work or equivalent work experience.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Experience with graphic design for enhanced visualization.
- Experience with Python for data processing and automation.
- Experience with SQL for querying and data manipulation.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
