Serves as the Prison Enterprises Farm Manager for agricultural operations at Dixon Correctional Institute (DCI).This position offers a mix of hands-on experience and strategic oversight with contribution to a vital industry.

, our facilities, and our mission.Minimum Qualifications Four years of farming experience that involved the use of mechanized equipment; or experience in a correctional or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders engaged in farming activities.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience for a maximum of four years.Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be foundJob Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:

  • Supervises and oversees agricultural operations through subordinate supervisors to insure all operate productively and profitably. Confers with the appropriate Wardens or institutional representatives regarding inmate assignments, transfers, and security. Additionally, confers and informs the PE Regional Manager & PE Agriculture Manager on reports, preventative maintenance programs, new products, new processes and expansions of existing agriculture operations.
  • Prison Enterprises is an ancillary “Enterprise Fund”, operating entirely on a self-generated revenue with a staff of approximately 68, operating over 30 individual cost centers at 7 correctional facilities across this State, along with a Headquarters location in Baton Rouge. Prison Enterprises has approximately 2,027 in livestock assets spread across 5 agriculture operations.

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
