About this Job The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans’ population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse Supervisor to provide first-line supervision of nursing services in either a clinical, educational, or programmatic setting.Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; ORA bachelor’s degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; ORA master’s degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; ORA doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be foundJob Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
As a Registered Nurse Supervisor A, you will supervise activities of clinics to ensure that patients receive needed services, program requirements are maintained, and appropriate follow-up appointments or treatment are provided.In this role, you will also:Serve as charge nurse and assume responsibility for staffing and/or care of patients within a unit.Assist in maintaining patient care standards by supervising and directing activities of subordinate nurses engaged in quality assurance, infection control, and utilization review activities.Receive physicians’ instructions regarding patient care and ensure that orders are transmitted to other units as needed.Oversee delegation of simple nursing and other therapeutic procedures to lower-level professional and paraprofessional employees.Make regular patient rounds to observe and assess patients’ physical conditions and behaviors, evaluate the quality of care provided, and ensure proper documentation of treatment and nursing observations.Review the nursing plan of care for all patients within a unit and ensure that treatments and therapies specified in the plans are carried out.Administer oral and intramuscular medications, begin intravenous therapies, and perform medical tests as needed in the absence of subordinate professional staff.Provide specialized nursing care, i.e., ventilative care, special equipment, triage, or multiple system failures, etc.Admit patients or receive patients following admission by conducting a Nursing Assessment and Initial Treatment Plan.Evaluate patient care practices according to established standards and implement quality assurance methods to ensure that standards are met.Plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of programs and courses to meet specific or general needs for orientation and ongoing training of staff.Direct nursing staff development and in-service education.Establish long-term goals and objectives for staff development and education.Determine needs for training through direct observation, results of quality assurance reviews, and consultation with other supervisors and directors.Participate in the design and conduct of special research projects.Participate in the development and update of nursing policies and procedures.Maintain records of employees’ participation in in-service and continuing education programs. Compensation: The Special Entrance Rate for this position is as follows, plus premium pay, and shift differentials (SEE BELOW):
