We currently partner with over 200 learned societies and look to expand service lines and driving non-dues revenue through innovative technology, forward-thinking strategies with society partners.

Role Overview

The Director, Society Management, is a newly created role with scope that may evolve over time. Reporting to the Vice President, Society Management, this leader will drive strategic partnerships with prominent societies through our partnership with Elsevier and expanding relationships with other partners. The successful candidate will be an accomplished communicator, adept at relationship-building, and capable of coordinating complex initiatives across functional teams. Some travel is expected, particularly during annual meetings and strategy sessions with partners.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnerships:

  • Establish and grow collaborative relationships with societies, publishers, publishing consultants and newly acquired partners through regular outreach, presentations, check-ins, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning.

Revenue Growth:

  • Identify and pursue society partners for growth in publishing partnerships and expanding service lines, cross-selling opportunities, and technology integrations that expand revenue streams.

Market Expansion:

  • Increase Conexiant’s society client base within the next year by leveraging the DXP SaaS platform society customers for cross-selling opportunities.

Performance Reporting:

  • Present monthly or quarterly updates on progress and revenue, offering data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Service Expansion:

  • Collaborate with product teams to launch new digital offerings (e.g., products that deliver new channels for expansion (such as new publications, sponsorship opportunities, events etc.), distinguishing Conexiant in the market and driving non-dues revenue growth.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Serve as a highly effective liaison between internal teams and external partners, ensuring transparency, alignment, and ongoing value creation.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 8-10 years in academic/scientific publishing, including 5 years in direct contact with society leadership
  • Proven success in building and managing large-scale partnerships
  • Strong understanding of commercial sales including digital advertising and sponsored projects

Leadership & Management:

  • Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain top talent
  • Skilled in directing diverse teams toward shared goals, ensuring accountability and consistent performance

Industry Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit societies and research institutions, healthcare organizations, professional publishing landscapes, both industry and nonprofit funding, open access
  • Experience working with or managing digital publishing platforms and SaaS solutions

Communication & Presentation:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Adept at negotiation and forging long-term client relationships
  • Comfortable leading large-scale presentations, webinars, and conference sessions

Organizational & Process Orientation:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Process-driven approach to problem-solving and project execution

Entrepreneurial Mindset:

  • Track record of identifying untapped opportunities and driving innovation
  • Capacity to pivot in a fast-paced environment, continually seeking ways to enhance service offerings

Technical Acumen:

  • Familiarity with data-driven decision-making and analytics
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product and technology teams
