Eliot’s Homeless Services Division is seeking a dedicated Overnight Awake Counselorto join our PATH (Project for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) Team which offers a wide range of services, including outreach, case management, mental health treatment, housing assistance, and referrals to other resources.

As an Overnight Awake Counselor, you will provide support to adults with serious mental illness, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders. This position requires the candidate to be awake, alert, and available to individuals throughout the course of the night providing assistance and support as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that consumers are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with ECHS’ Human Rights policy. Includes but is not limited to: assisting consumers in maintaining their appearance; supporting consumers’ cultural and religious preferences; not imposing any restrictions without consultation with clinical team and HRC; ensuring restrictions are limited and personal possessions are protected.
  • Assist consumers with being fully integrated in their communities by supporting them in the use of community resources, encouraging them in establishing memberships within their communities and reducing stigma within the community through education.
  • Ensure the safety of consumers, implementing crisis intervention
  • Provide and maintain therapeutic boundaries and a professional relationship with consumers. Exercise sound judgment by providing appropriate distance and support that promotes a trusting relationship and places the well being of the consumer first.
  • Recognize and respond to symptoms of mental illness and/or emotional distress.
  • Assist consumers with utilizing coping skills to help with management of symptoms or access additional resources to assist with management of symptoms
  • Assist consumers in maintaining common areas and personal areas in the program. Perform housekeeping tasks as needed. Report all maintenance and safety issues to supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency with six months related experience with people with severe and persistent mental illness. Experience working with the homeless population is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work and for the transportation of clients to and from appointments and activities as needed.

Schedule: 10:00pm to 8:00am; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (30 hours)
Hourly Rate
$19.50—$19.50 USD
