About The Role The Principal Data Analyst at Optum plays a critical role in supporting our digital sources of truth, particularly within the Manufacturer Rebate Contract (MRDB) digital foundation. This position involves delivering technical expertise and assuming project ownership to support key organizational initiatives such as MBS (Billing), Forecasting, Optum Specialty Fusion, Gateway, and RFPs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of database infrastructure, software development methodologies, and experience leading Agile projects. This role requires a self-motivated, analytical professional with a proven ability to perform root cause analysis and deliver actionable solutions, especially within healthcare or PBM sectors, with a focus on rebates. Collaboration with business and technology teams is essential, as is developing documentation, managing project plans, and providing strategic guidance based on data analysis. The Principal Data Analyst will also serve as a subject matter expert on rebate data, working cross-functionally to ensure data accuracy and support data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in reporting and data analytics
  • 2+ years of experience in the PBM/Rebate Management and/or Healthcare industry
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Databricks, and/or Python for complex data querying
  • Strong communication skills to effectively bridge technical and business audiences
  • Proven ability to solve complex business problems through data analysis
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management
  • Knowledge of healthcare or PBM rebate data structures (preferred)
  • Experience in process mapping, design, or operations (preferred)
  • Experience working as an Agile Product Owner or in data/analytics project management (preferred)
  • Familiarity with tools such as CA Agile Central, Aha!, or Rally (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of data and business processes related to Manufacturer Rebate Contract digital sources of truth
  • Act as a subject matter expert for product and data solutions, refining data requirements and developing roadmaps for integrated data solutions across the organization
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation on data infrastructure, usage rules, and best practices
  • Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities for operational optimization, and data quality improvements
  • Serve as the primary contact for cross-functional efforts involving core datasets
  • Design and implement data integration processes, automation, and monitoring tools to ensure high data quality
  • Engage with stakeholders to provide insights and recommendations for process and system improvements that support data strategy and quality assurance
  • Lead and mentor junior Data Analysts and Contract Analysts/Specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Develop project charters, business requirements documentation, and oversee User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Manage pre- and post-implementation issue resolution and prepare executive status reports
