Position Summary: We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Environmental Specialist to support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives within a healthcare facility. This role ensures that all environmental programs align with regulatory requirements and best practices, promoting a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, TCEQ, OSHA, Joint Commission).
  • Manage hazardous and medical waste disposal programs in accordance with healthcare regulations.
  • Conduct environmental audits and risk assessments across the facility.
  • Oversee air and water quality monitoring, including Legionella prevention and indoor air quality assessments.
  • Support sustainability initiatives such as energy conservation, recycling, and green purchasing.
  • Maintain documentation and prepare reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide training and education to staff on environmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with infection control, facilities, and safety teams to ensure integrated environmental health practices.
  • Respond to environmental incidents and support emergency preparedness planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of healthcare-specific environmental regulations and standards (e.g., RCRA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Certification such as CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) or REHS/RS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in both office and clinical environments.
  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials and waste.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for audits or emergencies.
