Using Data: The ability to use relevant and valid data to inform a recommendation for action.Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; ORTwelve semester hours of college training in a criminal justice field; ORAn associate’s degree in a criminal justice field.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be eighteen years old at time of application.An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.May be required to possess a current Louisiana driver’s license at the time of appointment.Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be foundJob Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
Respond to and conduct criminal investigations into suspicious fire losses. Determine the origin and cause of fires and secure any evidence of arson and any similar or related crimes.Conduct and coordinate the response of accelerant detection K9 teams, assigned to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, to fires with the suspected use of flammable liquid accelerant, statewide.Properly document the scene and any evidence located or collected by use of photographs, sketches, or diagramsLocate and interview witnesses. Develop and question suspects. Collect and secure statements of written, audio, and video interviews as evidence.Prepare written reports to properly document the case and all facts discovered during the course of the investigation.Collect various financial, insurance, civil, and/or criminal records. Examine and utilize pertinent information in filing supplemental reports.Execute arrest and search warrants. File necessary returns and reports with each. Carry and use a firearm as necessary in the performance of duties. Incumbent must be P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standard Training) certified.Conduct surveillance and collect intelligence information. Develop and meet with Confidential Informants and sources, as needed.Utilize technology, databases, and analytical tools in fire investigations.Position-Specific Details:

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The bi-weekly rate for this position is as follows:
State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 1 (PS112) – $1,764.80
State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 2 (PS113) – $1,888.00
State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 3 (PS114) – $2,020.00How To Apply:
