About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and developing the core systems that power our large language model (LLM)-based generative AI assistant. Your focus will be on building scalable, secure, and robust backend architectures that support millions of users worldwide. You will work on improving platform performance, optimizing data pipelines, and contributing to open-source projects that drive technological innovation. This position offers the opportunity to impact cutting-edge AI technology directly and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry. The role is remote, open to candidates based in the United States, with optional co-working spaces available in San Francisco Bay Area and New York.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in building and deploying mission-critical REST and RPC services with a focus on scalability and performance
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure management, including Kubernetes (k8s), deployment pipelines, and debugging at the system level
  • Expertise in designing and maintaining scalable SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects is a plus
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to develop elegant, maintainable solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of best practices in software architecture and development methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop scalable backend systems and infrastructure supporting AI-driven products at web scale
  • Enhance platform performance by ensuring systems are reliable, secure, and capable of handling millions of users seamlessly
  • Contribute to open-source projects and integrate innovative technologies into our platform
  • Develop and optimize production databases (SQL and NoSQL), ensuring high performance and scalability
  • Refactor and improve existing systems to reduce technical debt and enhance maintainability
  • Establish and promote architectural best practices and team development standards to foster long-term growth
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to implement robust deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting strategies
