Job Summary:
The Restoration Coordinator I is responsible for overseeing and managing the restoration of properties damaged by Consumers Energy field operations across gas and electric business units. This role requires strong customer service, investigation, negotiation, and project coordination skills while ensuring safety, compliance, cost-effectiveness, and on-time restoration. The Coordinator serves as the final customer contact, working with customers, municipalities, inspectors, contractors, OM&C, Engineering, Dispatch, and Customer Service to resolve property restoration issues. Responsibilities include scheduling restoration orders, tracking contractor performance, processing claims, SAP, Excel, SharePoint, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Restoration & Customer Support
- Investigate and coordinate property restoration related to CE field employee damage.
- Serve as the primary point-of-contact for customers and municipalities regarding property damage inquiries.
- Conduct on-site visits with customers, inspectors, municipalities, and contractors.
- Research and resolve informal and formal complaints, negotiate cash settlement agreements, and determine appropriate repair actions.
Scheduling, Planning & Contractor Management
- Schedule, assign, and manage restoration orders based on contractor capacity, order type, and regional workload.
- Monitor on-time completion rates, prioritize critical restoration orders, and track contractor performance.
- Create, track, and update restoration orders and requests within SAP and internal ERP systems.
- Maintain tracking spreadsheets, contractor assignment logs, and performance dashboards (Excel/SharePoint).
- Facilitate weekly vendor/contractor meetings to review schedules, capacity, safety issues, customer concerns, and performance expectations.
Permitting & Municipal Coordination
- Determine permitting requirements, acquire necessary permits, and ensure compliance before restoration work begins.
- Pre-notify municipalities and local government agencies of planned restoration activity.
- Communicate completion of restoration to inspectors and municipalities.
Financial & Invoice Management
- Manage purchase orders, requisitions, and contractor invoices for accuracy.
- Approve or deny contractor requests for scope changes or additional work.
- Investigate and respond to customer/municipality damage claims, coordinating evidence, order history, field reports, and claim determination.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Coordinate with Gas Operations, Electric Operations, OM&C, Lines/Distribution, EMO, EIRP, Forestry, Cathodic Protection, Meter Reading, Engineering, Dispatch, Customer Service, CAMs, and other internal teams.

Ensure clear communication and documentation of all restoration activity.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in MS Excel (editing data, modifying formulas, spreadsheet management).
- Proficiency in SAP (Front Office & Back Office transactions, order creation, reporting, and order review).
- Attention to Detail — ability to review assignments, SAP data, SharePoint files, and field reports to determine damage responsibility.
Strong Communication Skills — daily interaction with customers, field teams, contractors, inspectors, engineering, customer service, and municipalities.
Customer Service & Negotiation Expertise — ability to manage sensitive restoration issues, negotiate settlements, and maintain positive relationships.
SharePoint Knowledge — ability to retrieve job aids, schedules, spreadsheets, and upload documents.
