About The Role The Truework team, recently acquired by Checkr, is at the forefront of transforming a $5 billion+ industry by providing essential employment and income verification services. Truework delivers critical data used for mortgage loans, rental applications, background checks, and more, disrupting legacy incumbents with superior products and a customer-centric approach. Operating independently within Checkr, Truework maintains the agility of a startup while benefiting from the resources and stability of a larger organization. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining a platform trusted by the top mortgage lenders in the United States. Your responsibilities will span from leading project initiatives, collaborating with product managers and customers to define features, to working closely with sales and marketing teams to launch and scale innovative solutions. The role offers significant autonomy and requires a proactive mindset, high ownership, and a strong sense of craftsmanship, primarily focusing on backend development, though candidates from full-stack, QA, SRE, or related backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2+ years of professional software development experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript
- Experience developing RESTful APIs
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Demonstrated ownership from feature design through deployment
- Ability to collaborate effectively with external stakeholders
- Eagerness to learn, innovate, and contribute to a team environment
Responsibilities
- Act as an independent contributor capable of solving complex problems and delivering high-quality solutions with minimal oversight
- Maintain a customer-centric, product-focused approach by collaborating with clients and internal teams to clarify requirements and deliver impactful features
- Partner with cross-functional teams—including engineering, product, and design—to architect and implement new functionalities
- Validate customer needs through experimentation, rapid prototyping, and MVP delivery
- Prioritize quality by ensuring all software deliverables are reliable, scalable, and secure
- Monitor production environments, investigate issues, and resolve incidents to maintain platform stability
- Instrument and deploy data-driven experiments to enhance product offerings and user experience
