About The Role Ontra is actively seeking a highly skilled Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Machine Learning. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and scaling advanced machine learning systems that automate the extraction and retrieval of legal obligations from complex private equity documents. The ideal candidate will have a passion for revolutionizing legal technology through innovative AI solutions, with a focus on evaluation, search, and information extraction functionalities. As part of our remote-first culture, candidates must be based in California and willing to attend quarterly in-person meetings in either Santa Barbara or San Francisco. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI platforms, improve legal document review workflows, and contribute to the development of future generative AI and large language model applications.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in ML Platform or ML Operations roles
  • Hands-on expertise in creating data processing pipelines and infrastructure supporting LLM applications
  • Proven experience in deploying machine learning models in production environments
  • Strong knowledge of orchestration and monitoring tools for ML models
  • Experience designing, building, and scaling data and ML infrastructure using Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and scale advanced machine learning systems to automate legal obligation extraction from private equity documents
  • Build robust ML platforms to support the development of new generative AI and large language model applications
  • Collaborate closely with product, legal, and engineering teams to define project requirements and ensure seamless integration of AI solutions into existing workflows
  • Review, refine, and optimize datasets and machine learning pipelines to ensure high performance, scalability, and adaptability to evolving needs
  • Deploy machine learning models into production environments, continuously monitor their performance, and implement improvements through experiments and optimizations
  • Drive measurable workflow improvements in legal review processes, enhancing end-user productivity through innovative AI tools and applications
