Position Overview

The Accountant manages financial records, prepares reports, and ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely execution of accounting tasks. This role supports budgeting, bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial analysis, and assists leadership with reliable financial insights for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate general ledger entries and financial records.
  • Record transactions, journal entries, and adjustments as needed.
  • Track accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Manage expense reports and vendor invoicing.

2. Reconciliations

  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial statements.

3. Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Generate budget vs. actual reports and cash flow summaries.
  • Provide insights on financial trends, variances, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.

4. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Organize and maintain documentation for audits and tax filings.
  • Support external auditors with required reports and schedules.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting rules, taxation, and compliance requirements.

5. Payroll Support

  • Assist with payroll preparation by verifying hours, deductions, and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with HR and management regarding employee compensation updates.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and personnel information.

6. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Use accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar) to manage records.
  • Improve workflow efficiencies and suggest process enhancements.
  • Ensure proper backup and organization of financial data.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial procedures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets.
  • High accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Understanding of payroll, taxation, and financial reporting.
  • Diploma/degree in accounting, finance, or related field (designation is an asset but not required).
