For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTSWe are searching for an Occupational Safety/Environmental Health Intern to join our Safety Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).You will: Provide support to ARL Environmental Health and Safety ProgramsAssist with implementation of ARL Safety’s program management softwareUpdate Emergency Response Plans, conducting drills and responding to incidentsEnsure chemical safety in ARL facilities through maintenance of Safety Data Sheet database and chemical inventoriesMaintain supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and First Aid Supplies and distributeProactively promote safety programs through regular e-mail publicity, postings and focused meetingsRespond to ARL employee questions/concerns about environmental health and safety issuesRequired skills/experience areas include:Valid driver’s license with successful completion of a background and motor vehicle records checkAbility to lift and move containers that may weigh up to 35 poundsBasic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft ProgramsPreferred skills/experience areas include:Conducting inventory, testing, and/or inspections of safety equipmentConducting data management, entry, and reportingResearching safety issues and recommending corrective actionsAssisting in the development of safety trainingCurrently enrolled as a student with The Pennsylvania State University; preferably in a safety-related course of studyActive government security clearance (Secret)Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.FOR FURTHER INFORMATION on ARL, visit our web site at .BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
