Wharton-Smith, Inc., a leading General Contractor recognized for excellence across the
Southeast, is seeking an experienced and motivated Safety Manager to join our team in
Jacksonville, Florida. This position will support our JEA wastewater project and play a
vital role in maintaining our strong culture of safety, quality, and teamwork.Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement current safety training programs as required, including

Competent Person classes.

  • Identify safety training needs and provide safety training as appropriate.
  • Conduct project pre-construction meetings and review site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct safety assessments to track trends and ensure compliance with company,

Federal, and State regulatory standards.

  • Assists Project Management in developing site-specific safety plans.
  • Coach project team members on safety leadership & management practices.
  • Review Safety Task Assignment (STA) to provide feedback for improvement.
  • Conducts equipment training and evaluations.
  • Be able to deliver reports.
  • Conduct documented safety walks when visiting jobs via KPA EHS software.
  • Conduct incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assisting injured employees and managing return-to-work processes.
  • Establishing clinic and hospital relationships prior to project start.
  • Serving as the go-to safety resource for the jobsite.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Data analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of confined spaces (permit required and non-permit required),

cranes, excavations, fall protection, and scaffolding.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and construction safety

best practices.
