Registered Nurse
POSITION OVERVIEW
Orange County Public Schools is seeking compassionate, skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide direct nursing care, health education, and emergency response in a dynamic school environment. Nurses work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, and community health partners to promote student wellness, manage chronic conditions, and ensure a safe learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBATILITIES
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and OCPS protocols.
- Perform health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI) as required by Florida statutes.
- Maintain accurate, confidential health records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
- Respond to medical emergencies; initiate CPR/AED and first aid as needed.
- Monitor and manage students with chronic conditions (diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies).
- Develop and update Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs).
- Implement IHPs and 504 accommodations.
- Conduct health education for students, staff, and parents (handwashing, puberty, nutrition).
- Track immunizations and ensure compliance with Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH 680).
- Collaborate with school staff to identify and refer students with health concerns.
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings when health input is required.
- Assist with infection control (head lice, flu outbreaks, COVID protocols).
- Supervise LPNs and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) in delegated tasks.
- Perform nursing assessments and triage complex cases.
- Train staff on epinephrine auto-injectors, glucagon, and seizure protocols.
- Serve as case manager for medically fragile students.
- Lead health-related professional development for school staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- License: Current Florida RN license (or compact state)
- Certification: CPR/AED (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
- Experience: 1 year clinical or pediatric nursing preferred
- Background: Level 2 fingerprint clearance (FDLE/FBI)
- Other: With OCPS Badge / willing to obtain OCPS badge
