The Director of Data Center Development will lead strategy, site selection, and execution of new data center initiatives from start to finish. This role calls for a forward-thinking leader with extensive experience in data center infrastructure and deep familiarity with energy markets—especially in areas such as regulatory navigation, power procurement, and sustainability planning. The ideal candidate will shape the development roadmap, cultivate strategic partnerships, and ensure all projects align with broader financial, operational, and environmental goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the company’s data center development strategy, including site identification, energy sourcing, and future scalability.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams (engineering, finance, legal, and sustainability) to assess feasibility, manage risk, and evaluate project returns.
  • Structure and negotiate partnerships with utilities, renewable energy providers, and public agencies to secure power and incentives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including permitting and grid interconnection standards.
  • Promote innovative design and operations practices that prioritize efficiency, decarbonization, and integration of emerging technologies.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing development team.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular updates on progress, budgets, and market insights.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in managing end-to-end data center development, including land acquisition, energy infrastructure, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Strong command of U.S. power markets, renewable energy procurement mechanisms (PPAs, RECs), and interconnection requirements.
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, carbon neutrality) and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, ISO).
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field required; advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred.
