About the Company

We’re looking for a military veteran who has transitioned into technology leadership and thrives in startup environments.

About the Role

You’ll lead a small, high-performing engineering team while remaining technically engaged—either through hands-on coding or active code reviews. This role blends technical depth with product vision, focusing on building scalable, user-centric B2B SaaS products without the weight of corporate overhead. You’ll set the tone for engineering culture, mentor top talent, and partner closely with product and design to ship fast, clean, and intuitive experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a small engineering team (5–25 engineers) in a B2B SaaS environment.
  • Stay actively involved in coding or code review to maintain technical excellence.
  • Architect scalable systems using Node.js , TypeScript , Express , and MongoDB.
  • Guide front-end development efforts in React (React /Expo experience a plus).
  • Oversee infrastructure and deployment in AWS or GCP environments.
  • Implement and maintain compliance standards (SOC 2, data infrastructure).
  • Build lightweight, repeatable processes that enable rapid iteration and delivery.
  • Mentor and develop engineers while fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Partner with product leaders to translate user needs into simple, elegant solutions.

Qualifications

  • Military operations with proven leadership experience and a bias for action.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role (Director-level or above).
  • Strong back-end expertise in Node.js , TypeScript, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, ideally within high-growth or early-stage startups.
  • Demonstrated success scaling teams and shipping user-facing products.
  • Solid understanding of modern software development practices, CI/CD, and DevOps.
  • Strong product intuition and an eye for clean, intuitive UX/UI.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—able to balance speed, quality, and simplicity.
  • Based in the U.S., preferably outside high-cost hubs like the Bay Area or NYC.
