Acceptable Experience and EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent; and three (3) years experience with equipment related to job performance with two (2) years of that experience in the operation of single-axle trucks and related motorized equipment;Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Certificates and Licenses RequiredMust have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso;Possess and maintain a valid state of Texas Class B commercial driver’s license;Subject to federal drug and local drug and alcohol testing regulations, which include pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return to duty and follow-up testing.Typical Duties Essential Duties Operates single-axle dump trucks, flat bed trucks or water trucks; operates tractors with mowing machine and loader attachments; skid loaders, operates small patch compactors in connection with applying hot mix pot-hole patching on county roads;Picks up rocks, leaves and trash and cleans up after heavier equipment and assists in the loading and unloading of trucks; install guardrails, repairs detached or dented guardrails; patches potholes;Services and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment, and performing preventive maintenance on equipment including checking oils, fluids, and tire pressure;Supports park and landfill maintenance as needed;Paints dividing lines between traffic lanes; paint crosswalks; replaces and repairs traffic signs;Assists as flagger to monitor traffic during repairs of roadwork; sets out signs and cones to divert traffic around construction areas;Maintains warehouse area including sweeping, washing, and painting; removes weeds, dead trees, andbrush; trim grass and trees around warehouse area;Operates various light equipment and hand tools;Operates trucks to transport material and equipment to work sites; loads/unloads material from trucks; delivers material to secondary warehouse;Pumps water from flooded streets and other areas; plows snow; applies sand and salt to icy roads;Services and makes minor repairs to vehicles and light or heavy equipment; performs daily preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment including checking oils, fluids, and tire pressure;Operates heavy equipment under immediate supervision for emergency relief or training purposes as assigned;Inspects equipment, vehicles, and facility on a regular basis to ensure proper maintenance;Reports damages or issues with vehicles or equipment to supervisor;Works on road crews to maintain road shoulders; remove litter and debris from roadways; disposes roadkill accordingly;Performs park, landfill, and cemetery maintenance as needed;Documents daily work tasks completed and mileage used on vehicles; completes other related reports;Assists co-workers with various related tasks;Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; andCreates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.Other Important Duties*Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;May work weekends, holidays, and 24/7 standby;Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment;
As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.Job Summary Summary of Position The Road/ Maintenance Worker Int., under general supervision, maintains County roads including patching broken or eroded pavement, operating trucks, removing debris from roadways, and repairing street signs and crosswalks. The incumbent, operates trucks and other light to heavy sized equipment. In addition, supports other assignments relating to the maintenance of County roads, bridges, parks and right-of-ways.Additional Information Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of: machines and tools related to job performance, including use, repair, and maintenance; relevant equipment, policies, and procedures; materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of roads; the English language; principles and methods for the transportation of material; principles, operation, and servicing of trucks, light tractors, and related motorized equipment; carpentry and framing; rigging; federal and state traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation and job performance.Skill/Ability to: control operations of equipment or systems; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly; operate all equipment, machinery, and tools required; perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed; determine causes of operating errors and effectively correct the issue; work in extreme temperatures in an outdoor work environment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; operate trucks, light tractors, and related motorized equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and superiors; Pass a Criminal Background Investigation;Each and every county position requires the following professional skills and abilities as key and necessary elements of performance:

Retirement benefits are provided by the Texas County and District Retirement Fund (TCDRS). Regular employees become a member of TCDRS upon hire. All regular employees are required to contribute 7% to the retirement fund and the County matches 250% upon eligible retirements.
