Essential Job Duties The Stormwater Maintenance Tech performs routine and non-routine maintenance on stormwater infrastructure including catch basins, bio retention ponds, ditches, swales, and underground pipes. This position requires work outdoors in various weather conditions, the ability to operate light equipment, assistance with landscape installation, and construction activities. Team members should be prepared to respond to stormwater related emergencies and maintain compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, such as flooding during major weather events, to clear blockages and restore drainage.
  • Work Zone Safety: Set up and maintain safe work zones with warning devices in accordance with safety standards.
  • Inspections: Conduct regular visual inspections of SCMs and drainage infrastructure to identify any issues that may affect system performance. These may include erosion, damage, and blockages.
  • Vegetation Management: Perform string trimming, mowing, pruning, and brush removal to maintain proper flow around the SCM.
  • Debris and Sediment Removal: Manually remove or occasionally use specialized equipment such as high-velocity water jetters or vacuum trucks to clean and remove trash, leaves, sediment, and other debris from stormwater structures.
  • Erosion Control: Utilize sod, vegetation, or other materials to stabilize eroded areas around SCMs.
  • Minor Construction and Repair: Perform manual labor to repair damaged SCM devices.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Must have basic knowledge of equipment operation and function.
  • Documentation: Provide information on daily work activities as needed. Willingness to learn is essential.

Minimum Experience/Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to learn and operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans or maps is a plus.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
  • Ability to learn and operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans or maps is a plus.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
