Director of Accounting
Summary: An established power systems and marine/industrial services company is looking to hire a Director of Accounting to manage financial planning & analysis, accounting operations, and business unit finance for multiple locations in their organization. The company provides engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul services across the marine, energy, industrial, and defense sectors nationwide.Responsibilities:
- Manage core accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset tracking, and cash flow oversight.
- Drive the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles – targeting completion within 10 business days.
- Ensure full compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards; oversee internal controls and lead both internal and external audit processes.
- Compile, analyze, and review financial reports, including variance analyses and executive-level reporting packages.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized accounting policies and internal control systems to promote consistency and compliance across the organization.
- Serve as a key financial advisor to the VP of Finance and CFO, providing insights into the accounting implications of corporate strategies, investments, and M&A transactions.
- Deliver financial insights and prepare supporting materials for C-suite presentations, board meetings, and private equity stakeholders.
- Oversee financial systems and reporting tools such as Infor, DOMO, and Microsoft Dynamics. Promote automation and continuous improvement to enhance accuracy, visibility, and scalability.
Job Requirements Qualifications:
- Bachelor”s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role
- Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and audit processes
- Proven experience leading accounting in a multi-site, complex environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage close cycles
- Prior experience in a private equity-backed environment with $500M scale and/or high-growth startup complexity
- Ability to work remotely initially with the willingness and commitment to relocate to one of our primary hubs in Washington, Florida, or Colorado; relocation support will be provided.
Preferred:
- CPA certification strongly preferred
- Industry experience in Marine, Power Generation, Defense, Industrial Services, Manufacturing, or Energy
- Prior success leading teams through ERP implementations, system integrations, or automation projects
- Proficiency in financial reporting tools (Infor, DOMO, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Experience utilizing Paylocity, Power BI, Tipalti, Concur, SyteLine is highly preferred
