Introduction As a Design Intern, you’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, and product managers to create intuitive, accessible, and visually cohesive enterprise software experiences. You’ll gain hands-on experience across the full design lifecycle—from research and ideation to prototyping and visual refinement—while contributing to real-world projects that impact users and business outcomes.

Your Role And Responsibilities

  • Design wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma.
  • Refine UI components, icons, and layouts aligned with the Carbon Design System.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of design components and reusable assets.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers to gather insights and validate design decisions.
  • Apply accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and design system guidelines to all work.
  • Participate in design critiques, brainstorming sessions, and Design Thinking workshops.
  • Present design concepts and rationale to stakeholders, including developers and PMs.

Preferred Education Bachelor’s Degree

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in UX Design, Visual Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • A portfolio showcasing design thinking, UI/UX skills, and visual design work.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Illustrator, or Photoshop.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

  • Familiarity with collaborative tools like FigJam, Miro, or Mural.
  • Exposure to HTML/CSS or front-end development (not required, but helpful).
  • Experience with motion design tools (e.g., After Effects, Lottie) is a plus.
  • Understanding of metrics like engagement, retention, or conversion rates.
  • Interest in accessibility, design systems, and enterprise product design.
