Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary’s campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.Job Summary The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for overseeing and developing the music program of the church to enhance worship and support the spiritual growth of the congregation. This role includes directing choirs, coordinating musicians, selecting music in alignment with the church calendar and theology, and leading worship services. The Director of Music Ministry collaborates closely with the pastoral team, worship leaders, and volunteers to foster a vibrant, Christ-centered worship environment that reflects the mission and values of the church.Job Responsibilities Worship LeadershipPlan, coordinate, and lead music for all regular worship services (e.g., Sunday services, seasonal services such as Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, etc.)Select appropriate music that aligns with the sermon themes, liturgical calendar, and theological emphasis of the churchLead congregational singing and/or direct the worship team or choir as appropriateChoir and Musical GroupsDirect adult choir(s), children’s choir(s), and/or instrumental ensembles, including rehearsals and performancesRecruit, train, and develop volunteer musicians and vocalistsEncourage and facilitate participation from a diverse range of congregantsAdministration and PlanningCoordinate with the pastoral team and worship committee to plan worship servicesManage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, supplies, and equipmentMaintain the music library and ensure copyright complianceSchedule and organize rehearsals, and communicate effectively with all music ministry participantsSpecial Services and EventsPlan and coordinate music for weddings, funerals, and other special services as requestedOrganize special music programs (e.g., Christmas cantatas, concerts, or community outreach events)Spiritual LeadershipModel Christian character and spiritual maturity in leadership and relationshipsMentor and spiritually support music ministry volunteersJob Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in music, sacred music, or a related field (Master’s preferred)Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in church music ministry or equivalent experienceStrong skills in choral conducting, worship leading, and music arrangingSkills and Qualifications Proficiency in at least one instrument (piano, organ, or guitar preferred)Ability to work with both traditional and contemporary styles of worship musicStrong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively with pastoral staff, volunteers, and congregantsKnowledge of and sensitivity to diverse worship traditions and cultural expressionsThe Archdiocese of St. Louis is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
