CNA / Ward Clerk – Emergency
Job Description: Overview Hourly Rate: Min: $21.74 Max: $33.30Day Shift: Thursday, Friday, Sat. Sun, Wed. ThursdayHoliday rotation AEmergency DepartmentDefinition of Position: CNA is responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and quality commitment of Good Shepherd Health Care System. The CNA in the Emergency Room provides direct patient care and assists with various clinical and non-clinical duties in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. The CNA works under the direction of Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians to ensure patient comfort, safety, and well-being while facilitating smooth operations within the emergency department. Other duties may be assigned, but essential job functions includeWard Clerk works under the direct supervision of the Emergency Services Registered Nurses. Maintains and organizes patient records. Accurately maintains logbooks. Responsible for most of the telephone communication within the department. Assists in the smooth operation of the department by handling various clerical tasks, ensuring that patient flow is efficient, and that communication between medical staff, patients, and families is clear. Is responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and quality commitment of Good Shepherd Health Care System.Reports to: RN Director/ Department ManagerResponsibilities A. Working Conditions:Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels. Also subject to rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations.C. Physical Demands/Traits: Must be able to1) perceive the nature of sounds by the ear;2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken work;3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes;4) extend arms and hands in any direction;5) seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands;6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers;7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and8) stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education:Required: – High school diploma or GED, CPRCertificate:- CNA Certificate, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).Desired: – Computer experienceB. Experience:Required: – NoneDesired – Previous experience as ward clerk with computerized order entryC. Equipment/Tools/Work Aids:Computer (order entry system), printer, photo copier, patient records, telephone system, accu check monitors, BP cuffs, thermometers, patient beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, bed scales.D. Specialized Knowledge & Skills:Able to provide a CNA level of patient care, age specific, cultural, physical and psychosocial well being.E. Other:Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred.
