SWEEP Optical, part of Laurel Hill Center’s Supported Work Experience & Employment Program (SWEEP), is Oregon’s primary contracted ophthalmic laboratory. For nearly 30 years, we’ve provided high-quality, low-cost eyewear to Medicaid providers, state agencies, and the wholesale market. But we’re more than an optical lab-we’re a mission-driven Oregon Forward facility that creates meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.Last year alone, SWEEP Optical served over 250 providers and produced more than 35,000 pairs of glasses. With over 1 million pairs produced in the past two decades, our commitment to excellence is unwavering. Our rigorous quality assurance program ensures every pair meets ANSI Z80.1-2010 standards.About the Oregon Forward ProgramThis position is part of the Oregon Forward Program, managed by the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), which supports individuals with documented disabilities in achieving independence through meaningful employment. Laurel Hill Center’s SWEEP Optical is a certified Qualified Rehabilitation Program.To be eligible, applicants must provide acceptable documentation of disability (see below).Position Overview The Optical Production Clerk supports the full cycle of eyewear production-from inventory preparation and lab processing to final inspection and packaging. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who values precision, teamwork, and making a difference.Key Responsibilities Stockroom & Inventory

  • Prepare orders for production
  • Pull and mark inventory
  • Assist with inventory cycle counts

Lab Production

  • Operate equipment to cut, polish, coat, tint, and edge lenses
  • Assemble and align lenses into frames
  • Perform quality assurance checks
  • Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness

Packaging & Shipping

  • Inspect finished glasses for accuracy and quality
  • Clean, label, sort, and package orders
  • Scan and verify trays before delivery

General Duties

  • Follow safety procedures and agency policies
  • Inform Lead Worker of supply needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to operate machinery and use small hand tools
  • Strong fine motor skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet productivity standards
  • Professional communication in a team setting
  • Physical ability to lift 30 lbs, stand/sit for extended periods, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp, and tolerate odors and machinery noise

Minimum Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of background check, fingerprinting, and urinalysis drug screen
