Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of students and staff. Under the supervision of a registered nurse or school administrator, the LPN provides basic nursing care, promotes preventive health practices, and ensures compliance with Florida Department of Health guidelines and district policies. This contract position requires a compassionate, detail-oriented professional committed to fostering a safe and healthy learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
•Health Assessments and Care: Conduct routine health screenings, administer medications and treatments as prescribed, and provide first aid for injuries or illnesses in accordance with LPN scope of practice and school protocols.
•Student Health Management: Maintain accurate health records for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies), develop individualized care plans, and monitor for health-related barriers to learning.
•Emergency Response: Respond promptly to medical emergencies, including seizures, anaphylaxis, or trauma, and coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
•Health Education: Promote wellness through student and staff education on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention; assist in immunization clinics and health fairs.
•Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations (e.g., FAC 64B9-9.001 for LPN practice, FAC 6A-6.0253 for school health programs); complete required documentation, including incident reports and immunization records.
•Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to address health concerns; participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan meetings as needed.
•Inventory and Clinic Management: Maintain school clinic supplies, equipment, and cleanliness; order medical supplies in coordination with the district health office.
•Professional Development: Attend mandatory district trainings and in-service sessions; maintain licensure through continuing education as required by the Florida Board of Nursing.

Minimum Qualifications
•Education and Licensure: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program; current, active Florida LPN license (or eligibility for licensure) issued by the Florida Board of Nursing. Current CPR/First Aid certification required.
•Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience, preferably in pediatrics, school health, or community health settings. New graduates may be considered with strong internship experience.

Knowledge and Skills:
oKnowledge of nursing principles, pediatric growth and development, and common school-age health issues.
oStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
oProficiency in electronic health records (e.g., district software systems) and Microsoft Office.
oPhysical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and respond quickly in emergencies.

Other Requirements: High school diploma or GED; successful completion of background screening (Level 2, including fingerprints via FDLE/FBI) as mandated by Florida Statute 1012.32; negative drug screen and TB test.

Preferred Qualifications
•Experience in a school or educational setting.
•Certification in areas such as medication administration or diabetes management.
