Job Title: Principal Network Engineer (Contract)

Job Location: Boston, Merrimack, NH, Westlake, TX (Dallas) or Durham, NC

Work Policy: Every other week remote. 1 week onsite/1 week work from home

Pay Rate: 80-90 per hour

Job Description: The Application Traffic Management (ATM) Network Engineer will be responsible for the overall F5 and AVI Load Balancing design and secure connectivity solutions across the Fidelity enterprise. This role enables business teams and customers to be more competitive, productive, and profitable in a global environment. Responsibilities include designing new enterprise solutions, enabling customer connectivity, securing the environment through change management, and cross-organizational consultation. The position requires adherence to ITSM methodologies to ensure reliable delivery of IT services.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, manage, and support F5 and AVI load balancing solutions across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Consult with business partners on platform best practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex ATM-related issues.
  • Provide shift-oriented operations support in collaboration with network teams.
  • Participate in 3rd-level engineering escalation on-call rotation.
  • Escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of experience with load balancing technologies (F5, HA Proxy, VMWare/AVI).
  • Deep knowledge of traffic management platforms.
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Python preferred).
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and application traffic analysis.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VRF, VPNs).
  • Understanding of enterprise security policies and Agile frameworks.
  • Network certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects.
  • Strong customer-facing problem-solving skills.

Team Overview: You’ll be part of the Global Network Services (GNS) team within Enterprise Infrastructure & Operations (EI&O). The Traffic Management Name Services (TMNS) team manages Fidelity’s ATM and DNS services, including F5, AVI, Infoblox, and BIND infrastructure-critical to the firm’s revenue-generating operations.
