Summary

The Cost Accountant has two to seven years experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment and should be capable of successfully working in areas including but not limited to inventory costing, inventory control, manufacturing COGS, variance analysis/reporting, and quick/accurate period-end closes.

Essential Functions

  • Provide cost estimates for new products and ensure approved standard cost is set prior to the first production run. Assist with annual update of standard cost
  • Assist with reconciliation of perpetual inventory to general ledger on a monthly basis
  • Update Plant Production Summary on a daily basis
  • Process and analyze manufacturing work orders and resultant variances
  • Assist in analyzing and preparing inventory obsolescence reserves
  • Analyze all inventory adjustments to ensure proper classification
  • Assist in preparing, analyzing, and coordinating the annual budget and weekly updates of the quarterly Plant Variance Forecast
  • Prepare and submit monthly close journal entries and assist with other month-end closing requirements
  • Assist with annual physical inventory and with review of all cycle counts to ensure proper internal controls are being followed
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
  • 2-7 years of experience in cost accounting or inventory accounting preferably in the consumer products goods industry
  • Strong financial modeling skills using Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft D365 or similar

Job Prerequisites

  • Ability to meet attendance standards
  • At times it may be necessary to work additional hours in order to get the required tasks accomplished to meet deadlines
  • Have general math skills; adding, subtracting, multiplication, division and percentage calculation
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions
  • Able to use personal computer and standard office equipment such as fax and copy machines, calculator, and printers
  • Aptitude to learn computer programs as needed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Resourceful and well organized
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
