Job Summary

We are seeking an Operational Nuclear Human Factors Engineer to provide technical and operational expertise in support of human factors engineering initiatives within a nuclear program. This role will focus on integrating operator, maintenance, and testing perspectives into the design and validation of human-system interfaces, procedures, and training programs. The position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and regulatory-compliant operations for nuclear facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of nuclear plant operations and regulatory processes to human factors engineering activities.

  • Analyze requirements for plant controls and operational functions.

  • Review, test, and validate human-system interfaces using simulators and plant operating, surveillance, and emergency procedures.

  • Translate design requirements into analyses and technical documentation.

  • Support the development of procedures, including normal, abnormal, emergency operating, alarm response, and surveillance procedures, as well as operator training programs.

  • Provide operational input to Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) programs.

  • Develop acceptance criteria and prerequisites for pre-operational, startup, and construction testing.

  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, regulatory guidelines, and business procedures.

  • Participate in design reviews, support corrective action processes, and deliver timely, high-quality engineering documentation.


Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in a technical field.

  • Active or prior Reactor Operator (RO) license.

  • Minimum of 5 years of reactor operator experience.

  • At least 2 years of experience in nuclear human factors engineering.


Special Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

  • Must have held an RO license; SRO certification strongly preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of nuclear operations, human factors engineering principles, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficiency in procedure development, validation, and training program support.

  • Ability to interpret and apply NRC and INPO Operator Training Guidelines.

  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to develop clear, precise documentation.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.


Additional Desired Characteristics

  • Master s degree in Engineering, Human Factors, or a related discipline.

  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification at a commercial nuclear facility.

  • Experience with NRC Regulatory Guide 0711 implementation and reviews.

  • Documented experience delivering procedures for mission-critical facilities.

  • PPA Procedure Writer s Certification.


Work Environment

  • Remote role with no regular travel expected.

  • Standard first shift schedule with occasional flexibility for project needs.

  • Collaborative team environment requiring effective cross-functional communication.
