About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join our AI Platform Team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and deploying advanced AI and machine learning models that enhance our products and services. Your work will focus on leveraging cutting-edge AI frameworks, models, and data sources—including blockchain data—to drive innovation across Coinbase. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps, translate them into actionable plans, and lead the execution of high-impact projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of machine learning techniques, a passion for building scalable and secure AI systems, and a commitment to advancing the adoption of AI-powered solutions within the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in machine learning and software engineering
• Proven expertise in designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services
• Hands-on experience with at least one ML model type (e.g., LLMs, GNNs, Deep Learning, Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting Trees)
• Proficiency in data mining, natural language processing, computer vision, or related fields
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience developing well-tested, high-quality code
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical projects
• Ability to translate strategic goals into technical deliverables
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• Familiarity with industry best practices for secure and scalable AI system design

Responsibilities

• Research, explore, and apply advanced machine learning techniques, including large language models, deep learning, and graph neural networks, to solve complex organizational challenges
• Collaborate with management and stakeholders to define strategic AI roadmaps and develop quarterly execution plans
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes
• Develop, test, and deploy scalable AI solutions using industry-standard frameworks and tools
• Design secure, efficient, and maintainable AI infrastructure and systems
• Mentor and guide team members on best practices in AI model development, system design, and coding standards
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency
• Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure architectural integrity across projects
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and incorporate innovative approaches into the team’s work
