DEPARTMENT: Community Development

DIVISION: Custodial Services

SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Custodian Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

GRADE: 10

WORKERS COMP CODE: 9015

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of sanitary cleaning tasks for the care and maintenance of the City of Killeen’s buildings.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities CORE COMPETENCIES

Dust, clean and disinfect restrooms, offices, meeting spaces, and public areas.

Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop flooring and stairwells.

Vacuums carpets and floor mats, cleans carpet spots, uses “bonnet method” to clean carpet, and extracts soil from carpets.

Empty trash and recycling receptacles (replace liners).

Sweep and remove debris from all outside entry ways.

Handles chemicals and cleans spills and disposes of hazardous materials in accordance with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions.

Requests supplies as needed for the assigned facility, prepares supply list, carries and moves supplies from building to building.

Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.

Must be able to work effectively as part of a team as well as alone to accomplish assigned tasks.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) months of custodial related experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Skill in the operation of the equipment listed.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to communicate, understand, and follow both written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.

Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license by date of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check with the Killeen Police Department.
  • Must adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance administrative policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work from 4:00 am until 12:30 pm on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work occasional evening or weekend shifts.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Floor buffers, floor scrubbers (including automatic scrubbers), floor burnisher, carpet cleaners, pressure washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, dusting equipment, glass cleaning equipment, water extractor and appropriate safety equipment as required.

While fulfilling the duties of this position, the employee will regularly engage in activities such as reaching with hands and arms. Additionally, they will frequently stand, walk, and manipulate equipment using their hands, which requires a sense of balance. Occasionally, the employee may need to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, while also engaging in verbal communication.

Furthermore, the employee should expect to lift and/or move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities necessary for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus..
